Volapyk was one of the leading free jazz groups in Sweden during the 80s. The band toured extensively in Sweden and in Europe, as well as doing radio. Their music was characterized by its high energy, consisting of a mix of free improvisations, open compositions, and ballad-like material; free jazz with a Scandinavian accent if you like. In 1985 Volapyk released one self-titled LP at the now defunct Swedish label Dragon Records. The founding members were Per Anders Nilsson on baritone and soprano saxophones, and Peeter Uuskyla on drums, whereas several different bass players passed through the band, most notably Peter Janson. The present release premiers a live concert, recorded at Nefertiti in Gothenburg in March 1983, and the very first concert with bass player Janson.
